Local Lib Dems choose General Election challengers11.06.37pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 14th Feb 2005
Liberal Democrat members in Greenwich Borough have selected their candidates for the forthcoming General Election. Borough councillor Ian Gerrard has been chosen to stand in the Eltham constituency. Ian, 37, has lived in the borough for 15 years and works as a teacher at a school in Lewisham. He has represented the Middle Park and Sutcliffe area on Greenwich council since 2002. Commenting on his selection, Ian said, "I am honoured to have been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Eltham and look forward to campaigning on the issues that matter to local people - schools, hospitals, crime and pensions. People locally are fed up with Labour's broken promises; the Liberal Democrats want to make positive changes to make Eltham a better place for us all." Local environmental campaigner Chris le Breton has been selected by Liberal Democrat members to stand in the Greenwich & Woolwich seat. Chris has lived locally for 17 years and works as an adviser to Eastern European governments on environmental issues. Chris said, "I am delighted to be selected for this hugely exciting constituency and to have an opportunity to provide hope for those residents let down by Labour's arrogance and neglect both in Parliament and on the council".
