Cllr Ian Gerrard says Jamie Oliver should return the money to Greenwich schools

Lib Dem education spokesperson Cllr Ian Gerrard (Middle Park & Sutcliffe) has called on Jamie Oliver to return the £40,000 he charged Greenwich Council for filming the "Jamie's School Dinners" TV programme.

The money paid for Jamie's staff to work in Greenwich schools whilst filming the programme.

Cllr Gerrard commented "It's a shame that Jamie Oliver has not refunded the money. I would urge him to do so."

"The scheme to improve school dinners is a great initiative and we fully support its ideals. However the whole series gave the impression that Jamie Oliver was being philanthropic - the news that Greenwich Council Tax payers are subsidising the TV programme and his staff to the tune of £40,000 puts it in a new light."

"I hope that he will now do the decent thing and return the money," said Cllr Gerrard.
