Council told: You cannot sell what you do not own!

Cllr Brian Woodcraft tells Greenwich Council not to try and sell other people's property

Greenwich Council's Strategy and Development Unit recently wanted to dispose of various Council owned garage sites in the ward in order to generate funds for the Council to allow new build 'social housing' on the sites. Included in the disposal were the garage courts next to numbers 10a and 13 Brooklands Park, SE3.

Cllr Brian Woodcraft (Middle Park & Sutcliffe) immediately realised that the trouble with this proposal was that the garage sites do not belong to the Council!

The garages are privately owned by residents in Brooklands Park. Brian quickly advised several owners of the properties concerned, including the Chair of the Brook Park Residents Society who have title to the garage forecourts, of the Council's intentions. The residents confirmed that the Council were in error - over their claim to own the land and the garages on them - and so Brian advised the Council to stop trying to sell the garages immediately...
