Cllr Mark Pattenden (Eltham South) has welcomed the decision to restore the Community Open Space designation for the former Gaelic Athletic Association sports ground in Avery Hill Road.

"I am delighted that Greenwich council took the decision to overturn the planning inspector's decision," said Cllr Pattenden.

"The important issue now is how we get this land back into public use and available for local sports clubs and community groups."

The site is still subject to a planning application and may yet be subject to an appeal.

"The fight is not over," continued Cllr Mark Pattenden. "However it is a credit to all of those involved in the local campaign that it is still possible to see it restored to community use."
