No speed cameras in Blackwall Tunnel

11.35.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 20th May 2007

Transport for London has admitted that there are no speed cameras in the Blackwall Tunnel, according to a reply to a question from Lib Dem Greater London Assembly Member Geoff Pope.

Local Lib Dem spokesperson Seth Thévoz said:

"The rush-hour tidal flow traffic system was withdrawn last month after concerns about dangerous driving. But Transport for London's action appears to be extreme, given that they haven't tried anything else to prevent accidents in the Tunnel.

"Speed cameras would have been a better option. Instead they have taken drastic action which has caused traffic chaos across South East London."
