Lib Dems launch major survey on crime12.00.00am GMT Mon 10th Mar 2008 Greenwich Borough Liberal Democrats are launching a survey to find out what local residents really think about crime and policing in our borough. Brian Robson, GLA candidate for Greenwich & Lewisham, commented: "Like many local people, the Liberal Democrats are very concerned about the levels of crime and anti-social behaviour in London. Too many people live in fear of crime and are worried to go out after dark. Many ordinary people are having their lives ruined by anti-social behaviour. "In London, Labour Mayor Ken Livingstone promised in 2004 that he would cut crime by 50% - but since then violent crime has soared and there are too many guns and knives on London's streets." The Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor Brian Paddick has made cutting crime his top priority. As a former senior police officer Paddick has 30 years' experience of fighting crime and is committed to delivering practical, commonsense action to make our streets safer. Brian Robson continued: "The Liberal Democrats believe that we need more police on patrol, especially after dark. We need to free up police time from unnecessary paperwork. We shouldn't be spending billions of pounds on compulsory ID cards for innocent law abiding citizens, when that money could be better spent targeting criminals."
