Save our post offices - say Lib Dems12.00.00am GMT Sun 24th Feb 2008
Local Liberal Democrats are fighting plans to close another five post offices across the Borough. After thousands of post office closures during recent years, Gordon Brown's Labour Government - backed by local MPs Nick Raynsford, Clive Efford and John Austin - now say that another 2,500 are to be axed - 169 of those are in London - 20% of all post offices. Greenwich & Lewisham Lib Dem GLA candidate Cllr Brian Robson said, "Post Offices provide a vital community service. These closures will hit local people, especially older residents, very hard indeed. Only the Liberal Democrats have a plan to save our local post offices and to open new post offices when needed." The Post Offices under threat in Greenwich are:
